Congratulations to Cierra Mitchell and Kassandra Chaput, respectively, the first and second place, Edna Hill, 2017 Spelling Bee Winners!

Congratulations to Cierra Mitchell and Kassandra Chaput, respectively, the
first and second place, Edna Hill, 2017 Spelling Bee Winners!

The annual spelling bee began with 24 of the 37 students who moved on from the second round spelling bee, held in the theater 2 weeks prior. The judges were; Mr. Rodriguez, Mr. Kemper, Ms. Narez, Mrs. Richie and Mrs. Brown. Mrs. Allen read the words and definitions and ran the Spelling Bee along with Mrs. Brown. Dr. Hallberg was there as our administrator for the evening. Students wrote their words on whiteboards through 30 rounds of words that students were able to study. During these rounds, students could miss 3 words before  they had to sit out.  We next moved on to single elimination rounds. The words in these next rounds were additional words from the Scripps Pronouncer Guide, but the students did not have a list of these words to study. After the word “conducive,” there was one student left. Cierra had to spell her championship word correctly and she would be the 1st place winner. Her word was “ferocity.” She spelled it correctly! Next, the remaining students had to compete for second place. After the word “municipality,” we had one student left. Kassandra then had to spell her championship word correctly. Kassandra prevailed and spelled “flammable” correctly to win second place!
